CMA CGM Group to produce 12,000 tonnes of biomethane

As part of its commitment to the environment and the reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions, the CMA CGM Group has undertaken to produce 12,000 tonnes of biomethane, equivalent to the consumption of two 1,400 TEU ships over the course of a year.

On the occasion of CMA CGM's accession to theUnited Nations Global Compact, Group Chairman Rodolphe Saadé recalled the company's support for the production of 12,000 tonnes of biomethane, equivalent to the fuel consumption of two 1,400 TEU ships over a year.

This initiative is in addition to those already undertaken to reduce emissions with biofuels or LNG, which will reduce CO2 emissions by 25% compared to the 15% previously planned. This is all part of the company's strategic plan so that, by 2024, 44 of the Group's ships will be operating with these types of fuel.

Thanks to biomethane, the offer of value-added servicesACT with CMA CGM+, aimed at boosting the energy transition of customers, is strengthened.

Rodolphe Saadé, President and CEO of CMA CGM, said: "We have taken a new step with the launch of the first low-carbon shipping offer based on biomethane.

We know that there is still a long way to go to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement. Achieving these goals does not depend on a single solution, but on a set of initiatives and new technologies that complement each other."
