VGM: Safety of Life at Sea
Since the 01st July 2016, the verification of gross mass of all packed export containers are mandatory as per theSafety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS)convention.
It is theshipper’s responsibilityto check and provide us with theVerified Gross Mass (VGM)of a packed container. As per the SOLAS regulation, there aretwo methods of obtaining the VGM:
Method #1: “Upon the conclusion of packing and sealing a container, the shipper may weigh, or have arranged that a third party weighs, the packed container” using a calibrated and certified equipment.
Method #2: “The shipper (or, by arrangement of the shipper, a third party), may weigh all packages and cargo items, including the mass of pallets, dunnage and other packing and securing material to be packed in the container, and add the tare mass of the container to the sum of the single masses using a certified method”.
As part of ourNO VGM NO LOADengagement, kindly note that a container will only be loaded on a ship provided the VGM is communicated by the shipper or a person duly authorized by the shipper.
